Where Am I Now?

I am an Elementary School Media Specialist learning my way around a wonderful Media Center. This is my first full year as a Media Specialist. I am a former classroom teacher who taught for 15 years. I mostly taught in a first grade classroom and one of my favorite parts of the day was Reading time. It was so exciting seeing children come in at the beginning of the year only knowing a few sight words and taking them to the point where they were reading easy chapter books by the end of the year! I always enjoyed the challenge of the student who didn't like to read. This is the student who you can barely get them to open a book during reading time much less reading for the fun of it. I always made it a personal goal to get them to enjoy reading by the end of the year.
What Is My Goal?
I have achieved my most recent goal of becoming a Media Specialist and I have a new focus now...to learn as much as I can about how to run an effective Media Center. I have a goal of making the Media Center I am in now one of the best in the county and support the teachers and students as best as I can. I am learning new things each week about how to run a Media Center and each Monday I look forward to the new things I will learn for that week.
What Do I Do In my Free Time?
When I am not reading (which isn’t really very often), I am outside playing with my beautiful basset hound, Sammy. He is the most precious “puppy” there ever has been. Sometimes I am even out there reading with him. I think he likes it because he will just lay by the chair and listen.
I am fortunate to have my parents and brother and sister-in-law and sister living close by so I do get to spend a lot of time with family. I also spend a lot of time with my church family and I am a very active member of the Tampa Bay Area Walk to Emmaus Community.
